AGTAD TOUR V - QUTUB MINAR - 19 AUGUST 2006
At 8:30 am, we took 12 students of different classes of ASK - 7 boys and 5 girls- and a teacher on an excursion to one of the oldest monuments of Delhi, the Qutub Minar. The tower was built by the viceroy of Mohammed Ghori, Qutub-ud-din Aibak, in 1192. In the minds and hearts of most Indians the Qutub Minar is not only symbolic of but also synonymous with Delhi, the capital alone.
The Qutub Minar is a red sandstone tower covered with beautiful and striking carvings and is inscribed with verses from the holy Quran. There are beautiful lawns all around the tower. Within the complex is the famous Iron Pillar which has stood for millennia without rusting. There is also an incomplete tower which was supposed to be twice the size of Qutub Minar. The tour took around two and a half hours. The students were served with refreshments before they left the monument for school. They were back in school by 11:00 am.
