AGTAD TOUR IV RED FORT - 15 JULY 2006

At 9:15 am, we took 15 students of different classes of ASK - 9 boys and 6 girls- and a teacher on an excursion to one of the oldest monuments of Delhi, the Red Fort. The fort was built by the great Mughal emperor, Shahjahan. It is a significant landmark in the history of India because the bugle of independence of India was blown here for the first time in 1947.

We entered the Lahore Gate and proceeded to the main monument passing through ‘Meena bazaar’. The fort is surrounded by high walls made of red sandstone. We reached the Diwan-i-am (for the common people).
There were beautiful lawns all around us. We went into the monument and saw the beautiful structures and the private quarters of the emperor- Diwan-I-khas, the royal baths, the palace of colours and the Pearl Mosque. All were built in the Mughal style. The students admired the architecture.

The tour took around two and a half hours. The students were served with refreshments before they left the monument for school. They were back in school by 12:15 pm.

AGTAD TOUR III - HUMAYUN’S TOMB - 29 APRIL 2006

At 7:30 am, we took 13 students of different classes of ASK - 6 boys and 7 girls- and a teacher on an excursion to the tomb of the great Mughal emperor, Humayun. The tomb was built by the widow of Humayun. It is a world heritage site.
We proceeded to the main monument where Humayun’s tomb lies. It is built in white stone. The tombs of many of his other family members (around 100) are also spread around his tomb.

There were beautiful lawns all around us with fountains. We went into the monument and saw the beautiful structures and massive doors leading to the magnificent tomb. All were built in the Mughal style. The students admired the architecture.

The tour took around two and a half hours. The students were served with refreshments before they left the monument for school. They were back in school by 11 am.

AGTAD TOUR II - RAJGHAT, SHANTI VANA & SHAKTI STHAL - 4 FEBRUARY 2006

At 10:00 am, we took 7 students of different classes of ASK - 5 boys and 2 girls- and a teacher to Rajghat. It is the samadhi (memorial) of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. There were beautiful lawns all around. We completed the parikrama of the monument.

Then, we proceeded to Shanti Vana –the samadhi of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. There were roses planted in the premises. We then walked to the Samadhi of Mrs. Indira Gandhi called Shakti Sthal which is close by. It is marked by a huge rock.

The tour took around two hours. The students were served with refreshments before they left the memorials for school. They were back in school by 1 pm.

With this tour over, I have the following suggestions.

(i) As the days are becoming hotter and considering that the tours can be carried out only on Saturdays, it would be ideal if the tour can commence in the morning. At that time, there is also no rush and traffic on the roads in Delhi. We should aim at completing the entire trip before the traffic and pollution sets in. With the present timings, 10 am to 1 pm, a lot of time of the students is wasted on mere commuting.

(ii) As a lot of effort goes into the tour, it will be worthwhile if the Principal’s kind arrangement of an additional vehicle-Qualis from the school is continued and a larger number of students are taken out on such excursions. An additional vehicle had been made available last time. Such an arrangement would result in the betterment of more children with the same effort.

(iii) A few students out of the group sent this time had already visited these memorials earlier. The purpose of AGTAD will be better served if children from ASK who have not visited the monument alone are selected for the tour.

AGTAD TOUR I - AKSHARDHAM TEMPLE 23 DECEMBER 2005

At 10:00 am, the first tour of AGTAD was flagged off from the school by our very dear and respected Principal. Dr. Mrs. Shayama Chona in the presence of Mrs Pushpa Agarwal, Headmistress ASK.
It was a cold wintry morning with the fog refusing to clear off. There were twelve children from different classes of ASK, seven girls and five boys. They were accompanied by a teacher.
I also had my sister, Neelanjana Gupta(IX – H) and my brother, Manavendra Gupta(VI – K) along with me. They assisted me in managing the trip and with the handycam and the digital camera.
We had the facility of my own Qualis car and one Maruti Van which was very kindly made available by the Principal for transportation.

All of us reached Akshardham temple at 11:00 am. It is a most recently built exquisite monument constructed by the Swami Narayan sect of Hindus on the banks of river Yamuna. It is an extremely beautiful temple which has lakhs of devotees from all over the world. It is located in the trans-Yamuna area.
The children completed their tour, parikrama and darshan at the temple in about two hours. They were given literature, brochures and pamphlets about the temple. They were also served with refreshments at the end of the tour.

At 1:00 pm, we left the temple and safely arrived at the school. The Principal was good enough to meet us at the end of the trip and wish AGTAD many more similar trips.
